How the CMA Awards Have Changed Over the Decades

The CMA awards have been around for many decades, offering people insight on new country music artists and rewarding those who have been around long enough to have a devoted enough fan-base to allow them to win music awards for their songs. The CMA awards have recognized many great country stars through the years, including Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. These classic artists have a lot of talent and artistic ability and through these awards shows were able to reach out to existing fans and newcomers to their music alike.

Lately, it seems as though the CMA awards have started to chance in how they operate. More and more, the classic, legendary stars seem to be vanishing from these shows to be replaced by more “pop-friendly” acts like Taylor Swift and Faith Hill. The reason for this seems clear when considering how the demographics have shifted over the years. More and more young female fans are vocalizing their opinions when it comes to who they like best and the media always recognizes who the biggest money-makers are.

While in the past, true country artists were big sellers, this is not true anymore. In order to make it big in the country music world, the performer should sing catchy, family friendly songs. the CMA awards team knows this and will continue to rewards these kinds of musicians.
